A downloadable game for Windows

Banned Together is a first-person narrative puzzle game that asks the question, “What do books mean to us?” You will play as Ruby, a trans college student on a surreal, after-hours adventure in a campus library, where you’ll investigate the impact of book banning and erasure at a liberal arts college — and spark a new queer relationship that sustains Ruby’s ongoing fight for justice.

This new demo showcases our ongoing work to translate the Bitsy prototype of Banned Together into a full-scale Unity implementation.

FEATURES

  • There are no locks or keys, no tools or skill levels. This is a MetroidBrainia, which means that knowledge - attention to clues, engagement with the story - is the only way you'll progress through the many puzzles of this mysterious library.
  • The Focus mechanic lets you hone in on important objects and leads — but if you focus too much, your mental energy might run out! In future versions of the game, you'll delve more into Ruby's background and history, as you sit down to "free associate" and replenish your cognitive batteries.
  • Ruby's journal records all dialogue in the order that you heard it, and keeps a record of your unique version of the Banned Together story.

CONTROLS

  • WASD: Walk
  • Hold shift: Run
  • Mouse: Look around
  • F: Focus to search the library for important objects
  • J: Open Ruby's journal. When the journal is open, click and drag with the mouse to turn pages, or press any key to close the journal again.
  • Esc: Pause the game, or optionally return to the main menu

Cool concept, maybe the books could have some excerpts for those who want to learn more about the topic literally, I'm totally up to see where this goes!
